Happy Friday Dear Reader!

Can you believe it?? I finally have a WIP post ON the right day!!

I have been making quilted mug mats and I think everyone will be getting at least one this holiday season! I am hooked -- love how they are turning out, and mug mats/rugs are one of the new items that will be coming to Buttons In The Attic in 2016. Mr. Buttons and I have been discussing ways to refocus the shop, and adding more quilted items is one of the ways we are looking at -- as well as bumping up the number of stitcheries offered, more rug hooked items and punchneedle items. We are also talking about offering various holiday items year round as well -- snowmen, santas, bunnies, Americana and the like.

ANYway -- here are some of the mug mats -- **squee** I am in love! (Yes -- these are the same pattern as the ornament I am offering in the giveaway (see below -- and be sure to enter and join in the blog hop!) just in a bigger size! I could even do matching ornaments and mug mats!
Ok Dear Readers--

I just want to apologize for being away for so long! Mr. Buttons has Sunday and Monday off so my weekends are off too, and in the past month, I have meant to sit down and write all of you with updates and before I know it, it is Monday, and does Monday really count for a weekend? lol! But I am gonna try and get my blogging up and running again!!

I have been busy with making new things and coming up with new ideas for my Etsy shop. I have really given some thought to what my direction will be. I have been weaving, so I really want to have my woven items in my household category, and I have some new ideas to 'freshen up' my stitcheries -- my pillows in particular. I really enjoy making my stitcheries, but I think they could stand a bit of an update -- new pictures for sure and a new finishing treatment. Stay tuned!

I am also going back and incorporating some of my older crafts -- rug hooking, doing more punch needle, more dolls, making more candle mats -- I have had requests for dolls and Mr. Buttons would appreciate me not chasing the holidays QUITE so much -- he wants me to focus more on the everyday items and have the holidays round things out, not have such a huge presence in my shop to the point that I ignore the mundane. While I see his point -- and while Christmas is my favorite holiday -- chasing the holidays does make me crazy! So I will follow his suggestion and bring some new ideas and items to my shop.

In that regard -- here are some rug hooked sunflowers I have been working on!

They are hooked using #6 wool cuts (6/32 of an inch wide) and were hooked onto preshrunk Monk's Cloth. The petals are done 'proddy style' and are between 1/2 and 3/4 of an inch wide. They are going to be finished by being turned into little pillows and then made into Make Dos by sewing them onto rusty bed springs. The flowers themselves are about 8 inches wide and should be right around 10 --11 inches high when sewn onto the bed springs.

These are a few of the items that are going to be coming soon to my shop! I have really enjoyed sharing my new Hooked Sunflowers with you!

Take care, and I will be back soon with more updates!

Until then, happy crafting!

Hello Dear Readers!

I hope one of you can answer this for me-- WHERE did February go??? Just feels like yesterday was the last day of January and POOF! Here we are in MARCH!!! I just don't know where it went!

I have been doing a lot of work on Squishie Love and I have just been filling orders for Buttons. I have had some orders for my candle mats and I have new things on the cutting table that will get finished up soon!

On the Squishie Love side of things, I have been busily sewing and crocheting lots of fun toys. I had planned on opening Squishie Love last weekend, but Mr. Buttons ended up being really sick and he finally went and was seen on Tuesday after he tried to work and was diagnosed with Bronchitis of all things! So lots of soup and hot coffee and meds. Poor hubby! Hoping he feels better soon because he hates being sick.
I just LOVE how he came out! And he will soon be joined by a little pink sock monkey named Rosie and a couple turtles and a teddy bear or two and more! I have also discovered a brand of totally AWESOME crochet hooks! I love love LOVE them! I have been using the standard Susan Bates/ Boye aluminum hooks, but I have been crocheting so much lately that my hands were cramping and I would have to set my work aside. Where there is one doll that I am working on that I needed an 'E' hook for--which is a hook you can't just run down to Michael's or Walmart to pick up and required a trip to my local yarn store. There I discovered the Addi Swing crochet hook-which is an ergonomic style of crochet hook. They are a bit spendy, but my first day with my new hooks, I was able to crochet all day with nary a twitch or issue. I am in LOVE with them! I am able to crochet without having to grip my hook tightly--which is GREAT when dealing with the smaller gauge hooks.
Hello dear readers!

I can't believe that January is almost over! Can you?? I do not know where the time has gone! Well, as I promised last week, I would introduce you to the 'girls'!

First off, here is Ingrid :-) she is a Bergman loom and she was created by a woman who immigrated from Sweden back at the beginning of the 1900's. She was quite surprised that there were not weaving rooms in American homes, so she and her husband set about developing a loom that would fit in the standard American home. She is a countermarch loom and her weaving width is just about 40 inches wide. The first two and the last pictures are of my Ingrid where she was before she came home and the middle 3 are of a Bergman that was available on Craigslist to give more of an idea of how she looks. She is really rather intriguing because her front and back can fold in like shown in the 3rd picture while warped! So say your loom was in the dining room and you were having company--you could move the warp beam and the cloth beam and the breast beams up and out of the way and fold her closed and she would be all of about 24 inches deep!
My other girl is a somewhat LeClerc type Fanny or Fannie as the case may be. Not really sure what her story is.We bought her locally from a fellow who had purchased her and decided that she was too big for his place. So we were able to pick her up for $100. We actually only paid $200 for Ingrid! And they are both, full size floor looms. Anyway, back to Fannie--there are lots of parts on her who say she could be a Fanny, but there are parts of her that clearly are not. It is possible that she could be a very early 1930's Fanny, since she does look like some of the really old pictures we have seen, or she could have been damaged in some way and rebuilt. If that is the case, maybe she is from Betsy's Buggy Barn! lol The gentleman we purchased her from had no information on her. But anyway--here are some pictures of her in our living room after she came home! She is a counterbalance loom, so right now, basically, 2 shafts rise while the other 2 sink. We are looking at getting a shed regulator that will allow her to be used as a 'regular' loom, but she is a workhorse and can do everything from lace to rugs--just like Ingrid! Fanny's weaving width is 45 inches wide so I can do blankets and all sorts of fun things on her!

Ok dear readers, I think it is time to wrap up for today! It is getting late and I didn't want today to get by without a note to you all!
Hello dear friends!

I just looked at the calendar and realized that January was already 2/3's over! So how about a slightly late *cough* Happy New Year! I also can not believe that I had 1 count it 1 post for all of 2014! I will say that 2014 was a rough year, but one that we--Mr. Buttons and I--learned a lot during the year and learned what we will do and what we won't do as time moves on.

So--on to 2015! Lots of fun new things in the works for this year! Punch needle, rug hooking, quilted items, more dolls, more everyday fun goodies and WEAVING!!! We did buy 2 floor looms in 2014--I will be sharing pictures and stories about the 'girls'! I am also FINALLY going to get on my children's shoppe--Squishie Love. I CAN HARDLY WAIT!!! I have lots of things in the works there! Crocheted and sewn dolls and animals, blankets and booties--I am sure I will have woven blankets as well. Really looking forward to stretching my horizons this year--I think it will be a good year :-)

Until next time!

Happy Crafting!

Well, 2014 is here and time to get a new, fresh start on things! I have been working hard already on some new things for my Etsy shoppe--like needle punch! and I am working on embroidered pillows too! I am looking at doing more general household items instead of just focusing on holidays. I want to create lovely items that can be enjoyed during anytime of the year. I have had several requests for more dolls and more stitched items and I HAVE HEARD YOU!!! Stay tuned for some new items upcoming in my shoppe! I can hardly wait to share them with you!

I have to share with you some pictures of my little helper guy from last year--Mr. Buttons was helping me paint up crows to get orders out and little helper guy had to jump in on the fun!

Here are a couple of the needle punch items I am working on--

First off, I coffee and tea stained a whole SLEW of DMC floss--some I double and triple dyed--and many colors were from little helper guy going crazy in Walmart grabbing thread one day when I stopped in to get a few skeins for a project I was working on. He was having so much fun, I couldn't say no, and I knew I was going to need different threads anyway!

Then, I found the perfect pattern for my first major project by Fully Woolly Primitives--primitive pin cushions! So I gathered my threads, punch needle, embroidery hoop, and pattern traced onto weavers cloth, and dove in!

I finished the pear and got right on the second pincushion I wanted to work on--a primitive star. Hello Dear Reader!

I can not believe that 2013 is almost over, Christmas is almost here (10 days away!) and 2014 is just over the horizon!

As the year is coming to a close, I am really re-thinking my businesses. I spent a grand portion of this year doing wholesale and while it has been fun and profitable, I have really neglected my Etsy store, I have been unable to really devote the time I need to expand my on line presence, grow my Etsy customer base and expand and grow like I thought I would when I first contemplated adding a second shop and focusing on wholesale at the end of last year and the beginning of this year. I have discovered that taking orders and working very hard to fill orders has taken some unexpected tolls on my family and I have stepped back and am rethinking my move forward. One thing I am looking at is doing just cash and carry. Basically, that is making 2 dozen widgets, let's say, and I offer those as cash and carry--basically when they are paid for, they are shipped. If I focus on doing C&C, I can devote more time to my family, if I want to take a day off, I can without the guilt of orders not being filled, and I can play with my son without the same worry. Of course, there is the concern of not having anything to sell without the 'sew, sew, sew' of having orders to be filled, so I am going to be looking at quotas, so I am making enough items. I am also looking at checking out craft fairs as well as expanding my Etsy store into more day to day items rather than just chasing holidays, and FINALLY opening my kids store! Something I have wanted to be able to do for the past year and haven't been able to get to! So, instead of the Christmas grand opening, I am now looking at an Easter or Spring grand opening--just in time FOR Easter!

So, to that goal, I am looking at closing my shop for the Christmas Holidays--I was going to close today, and then I got a sale! **squee** and had I closed my shop, I would have missed it! Sooo... I am looking at maybe from Christmas Eve or maybe the 22nd thru January 1st at least, possibly thru January 15th. I would like to clean up my shop, take new pictures, have new, fresh offerings and just spruce the place up, ya know?!?

So I hope that all of you have a splendid, blessed Christmas and a very Happy New Year and I hope to live up to another goal for 2014 ~~ touching base with all of you on a more regular basis, and Mr.Buttons has suggested a photo gallery of my reworking of my Etsy store and Crafting Room--it would probably be really good for my revamped Etsy About page too!

Talk to you soon! Happy crafting and until next time~~

Hello Dear Readers!

I can NOT believe that October is just about over! I have been so busy sewing, stuffing and painting goodies for sales both on Etsy and for my wholesale clients I don't know what day it is! Add in a VERY busy 2 year old and well, the days just FLY! I have orders for in excess of 350 of my Christmas Crows as well as a 100 of a Cardinal variation and I have requests for more of the Ruddette Reindeer ornies. I am working on basic dolls in-between orders, as well as other holiday items. Add in some Etsy orders and busy, busy, busy!! is the name of the game!

Here is my Christmas Crow! I can NOT believe how popular this little guy is this year! He started out his life last year when I designed him to be part of a set of Halloween plant pokes, and while cute, I thought about how he could be cuter! So I started playing around with hats and different things and the Christmas Crow was born! He sports a stocking hat made of various stripes/plaids/holiday prints and is finished off with a rusty bell. He has quilted wings on both sides and his eyes are glass beads. Very sweet! He is made of stained Osnaburg and then painted, sanded and stained again!

A few weeks ago, the crows all got together and said they needed a new friend so I came up with my Christmas Cardinal and I am very happy with how he turned out! He was created using the same pattern as I used for my crow, and is also made from stained/painted/sanded Osnaburg. I really like this fabric--very much reminds me of a coarsely woven linen. He has 2 wings as well, and has the distinctive black markings that are such a familiar sight with wild cardinals. I have the cardinals sporting a green stocking cap instead of the red like the crows. I thought it was a good contrast. The hats are made of various green prints/stripes and plaids.

Right now, the crows are available in a set of 3 on Etsy, but I will be adding the cardinals, and will also be selling them as a set of 2 and as singles!

Well, dear reader, I can hear my sewing machine calling my name! Must get back to work--but I will be back soon! If you have any questions about the birds, please don't hesitate to comment below!

Till next time~~
Happy Crafting!

Good morning Dear Reader!

First off, I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter yesterday! Ours was nice and quiet! Little Man convinced Papa to pullout ALL the Thomas the Tank Engine wooden track and they spent the day doing various layouts in the front room! Much fun! :-)

This year, for Easter Dinner, instead of the traditional Ham or Lamb for dinner, I found a really yummy pork roast recipe for Roasted Garlic and Herb Pork Loin--we had steamed veggies with it and I am thinking about having a salad out of the left over roast for dinner tonight.

Talking about Little Man, I can NOT believe that he is 2! We celebrated his 2nd birthday with Grandpa and Omi and all his cousins and THAT was a lot of fun! It was a Thomas the Tank Engine day all the way around and again this year, his cup cake toppers were provided by Tami of SugarArtByTami. She is wonderful to work with and I can't sing her praises enough! She modified the trains so we could have Thomas, James and Percy. Here is a picture of Little Man and his cupcake!

And as we celebrate my youngest's 2nd birthday, my oldest is preparing for Prom, graduation and college just around the corner--truly, where has the time gone?

On the crafting side of life, be on the look out for many new items! I am working on a myriad of prim flowers--daisies, black eyed susans, sunflowers, wild flowers, and roses as well as new dolls and fun summer items!
WOW! It is ALREADY March 15th??? Truly where has the time gone?? Spring is getting ready to .... spring! lol and I am starting to work on Patriotic items for both my Etsy shop, selling blog AND for my wholesale clients. I am already thinking about getting a head start on my Christmas items as well, since the wholesale groups I am in as well as Etsy do Christmas in July specials, and I want to make sure I am well prepared for them! Thinking about a bunch more of my prim candy canes, my crows and cardinals as well as snow men, snow men and more snowmen and elves too! I want to try my hand at door hangers and wreaths too!

I am also in the process of revamping Buttons appearance with new headers and brand new graphics as well as a re do of my shop!

For those of you who are interested in child friendly items, I am just about ready to open my new Etsy shop! It looks like opening day will be right around April 15th! Very excited about this new venture! Stay tuned for more on that!

On the home front, my Little Man is almost 2!! I can't believe how time has flown! We are using cup cake toppers from Sugar Art By Tami again this year. LM has gotten sooo into Thomas the Tank Engine in the past few months -- and playing with the trains and cars too -- that we decided to do a Thomas themed birthday and Tami was wonderful to work with in making that come true! She made engines in red, blue and green on white discs and we will probably get blue frosted cup cakes for his big day. I am sure I will be posting pictures just like last year!

Well, I hear my sewing machine calling my name, so I should get back at it!

Happy crafting!
Hello dear reader!

Little Man is napping and I am sitting here, listening to the wind blow--contemplating a pot of coffee rather than a cold soda!--we are expecting snow either tonight or tomorrow. Brrr!! Dinner tonight is Hearty Chicken Stew from Food Network . Soo good! It is a basic recipe, but it is easy to spice up and we like it here!

If you haven't already, you should check out Vivian Fuller's group on Facebook--Kindred Souls for Sandy--it is a group of crafters and buyers who are gathering together to raise money for the victims of hurricane Sandy. The artisans are offering hand crafted treasures and all items start at $.99 and the auctions last a week. I have this little guy--

up for auction at at last check, the bid was up to $15.00! The auction on this sweet snowbaby runs through tomorrow morning at 11:07 PST. Be sure to check out this wonderful group and bid on one--or more!--of the wonderful items offered! And remember, it is for a very worthy cause. All proceeds are being donated to either The American Red Cross or Salvation Army.

I hope you will stop by!

Be safe dear reader and happy crafting! I will be back soon with updates!
Hello Dear Readers!

I can NOT believe it has been so long since I sat down and wrote--JULY??? I just can't believe it!

Where have I been, you may be asking, well I started selling wholesale in addition to selling on Etsy. I figured a sale here and there... NOPE! I got a ton of orders and I have been busy busy BUSY and it has been wonderful! I have had repeat customers, which is wonderful! It has been an interesting ride keeping it all together! LOL and while I am working on Christmas and Thanksgiving goodies for my Etsy store, I am working on Easter and Spring for Wholesale! I have a feeling that there may be a Santa bunny showing up somewhere along the way!

AND I have reached 112 followers! Whoo Hoo! **happy dance** so it is time for a giveaway since I have passed 112 on Blogger and I am right around 160 on Facebook! I will be putting together the giveaway here over the next few days, so be sure to check back and enter! I am looking at doing a Christmas ornament giveaway, since it is just about that time of the year!

On the home front, Little Man is just growing like a weed and is a true joy! He loves to help in the kitchen, as best as a 19 month old can! He already carries out his dishes after dinner **wow** and must supervise when Mommy is on the sewing machine--that is a fun one--keeps me from racing the machine (mom would be so proud! LOL) and it can be exciting when he is trying to feed the fabric through the machine with me--needless to say, most of my sewing happens when he is either taking his nap or Papa is home to corral the Bean! He is also quite interested in trying to stuff items and likes to carry around the paint bottles. He is such a kick! I love him to bits! :-)

We have also re organized the sewing area, also known as our front room! Earlier in the year, remember when my husband brought down my sewing machine and cabinet? Well, I ended up being in the flow of traffic, so last weekend we swapped the bookcases and sewing machine cabinet, so I am against one wall that is well out of traffic and FINALLY got all my fabric up on the book cases (yea!) organized by color. Now, I want to get/make fabric covered boxes to store the fabric in. Looks really good and I am happy with how it is all coming together, and hopefully it can stay this way for a while!

Well, I am happy to be back in the bloggosphere!

Hello Dear Readers!

Yes, today is my birthday, and I thought that I would celebrate by having a giveaway that would run from today (June 2nd) through June 25th, which is my husband's birthday. We often do Hobbity birthdays, where we buy gifts for others, rather than get gifts ourselves, although my husband and son got me a Kindle Touch (yea!) and a beautiful holder for my glasses, since every time I take them off I end up forgetting where I put them and spend much time looking for them--I think it is the house elves playing tricks, personally!

Anywhoo--since this is a birthday themed giveaway, the giveaway item will be a surprise! Not to worry though, it will be something perfect for summer! Also, if I get to 110 followers, there will be a second gift given away! So tell your friends! The giveaway is open to followers in the US and Canada.

Entering is easy!

Post a comment here on my blog for one entry and new followers are always welcome!

Share a story about your favorite (or worst!) birthday, or your favorite flavor of birthday cake--mine is carrot by the way! for an extra entry!

Post on your blog or sidebar for an extra entry as well--2 if you do both!

Post a comment on my Facebook Page-- https://www.facebook.com/Jar.O.Buttons and join my page for 2 extra entries! Tweet about it too for an extra entry! https://twitter.com/#!/Jar_O_Buttons

That makes a total of 7 entries! The winner will be chosen using the number generator on Random.org

And yes! Today IS my birthday! It sure seems like they come faster every year, but I am very thankful for all the joys in my life--a loving husband, a daughter and a step son and my little man who was quite the surprise 14 months ago! And great friends and a thriving business that just keeps getting busier and busier! On that score, I have joined The Olde Country Cupboard Wholesale Market this past week and I have already had my first sale, with more to come, I am sure! Thank you Donna!

On the other fun news, I have had several people ask me if my dollies are child friendly--alas, no they are not, they are 'pretty to look at and nice to hold' but are probably best left as collectibles, so I am going to start making child friendly dolls and toys as well! I am putting together a new store on Etsy so stay tuned for more news on the new store! I think it will be a fun venture and will dove-tail nicely with Buttons. Really looking forward to it! I am going to have child friendly squishy lovey dolls, clothing, other toys and some other fun items!
ButtonsInTheAttichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15106830726179292580noreply@blogger.com20tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3184022336395380089.post-27657440493822554832012-05-27T11:27:00.001-07:002012-05-27T11:27:59.452-07:00Memorial Day Sale!!

Whew! Time sure does fly doesn't it?? I can't believe that it has been almost 2 weeks since Little Man's big day and I am just now catching a few minutes to sit down and write about his birthday!

Well--it was a great day and fun was had by all! It really was a fun little party--it got started right on time and ran over a bit with everyone visiting. We ended up having 13 people, so it was a nice turn out, and the deli tray that we were afraid we were going to be snacking on for days after got munched right up! It was your basic deli tray--3 kinds of cheese--cheddar, pepper jack and swiss--and 3 meats--turkey, ham and roast beef. There was olives and we added a veggie dip and I picked up 2 dozen rolls--12 plain and 12 sesame so people could make sandwiches. The cupcakes were ADORABLE--here see for yourself!

Aren't they cute??? I was super pleased with those little guys from Tami's Sugar Art. Quite tasty too! Just rolled fondant and the extra long legs were prefect to keep them standing upright in the frosting. And here is Little Man enjoying one of his cupcakes! He even got frosting on his nose!
Frosting makes wonderful finger paint too!

I have been busy with some new projects and I just need to get pictures taken so I can get them up on Etsy--using the cell is NOT the best for selling, and with Little Man wanting to walk everywhere and help, kinda need Papa to help with pictures! So hopefully, this weekend, that can get done in between all the other things that need to get done in the next 48 hours! Did I say that coffee was my best friend right now? Little Man has also decided that 3 am is a WONDERFUL time to wake up, no matter the time we went to sleep the night before! Amazingly though, I feel that I have gotten quite a bit done and accomplished actually the past 2 weeks, and I have more things up my sleeves for Summer!

Here is one item I am working on-- more cutter quilt goodies--but with out a doubt, I am really hooked on cutter quilt items! I really like how different every piece is and each is an individual.

Stay tuned to see what these little guys turn into! I am also working on coiled coasters--and I can see lots of different applications for these guys! Coasters, small candle mats, like for a votive cup, perhaps to set a frame on, a plant... the possibilities are endless!

One bit of VERY exciting news is that I was accepted into the Old Farmhouse Gathering team on Etsy this week and I am just over the MOON with excitement! Very big thing for me to be accepted--it is a juried team so I had to be accepted in on the merit of my work and I am just so proud that I am now a part of OFG! Be sure to check them out on Etsy--just put OFG into the search and revel in all the beautiful items from the talented artists that are in this group! Sooo thrilled! **happy dance**! Stay tuned as well, because in mid May they are hosting a Summer Celebration and that will be something to see!

Yippee! I just got word that I won one of the 2 bunnies offered by Barb at Barb's Heartstrokes Blog that she offered in a quick little giveaway-- I think they are darling, and I know they are going to have fun with all the bunnies I have here! Looks like this is going to be an exciting weekend after all!

Well I should wrap it up for now-- I wish everyone a very happy weekend, take care, be safe and as always--happy crafting!!

Happy Weekend Dear Friends!

I have been sewing up a storm this week and it has continued into today --I have been busy making bears from a pattern by Maureen at Sweet Meadows Farm--totally ADDICTED, I must say! I love, love, LOVE this pattern! So great for using up scraps, and I can see more patterns by SMF being added to my 'Must Make' list! I have 2 that I can show you now--

The first one is a flat headed teddy--just look at that sweet face! with a rather heavily tea and coffee stained fabric body--the fabric started out in a light teal-ish blue and I am really pleased with the level of distress. She is finished off with 3 rusty bells tied on with crochet thread and a rather ratty tea stained cheescloth bow.

The next one is a round headed bear, which hubby says would make a great Daddy bear and this one is dressed in a lighted stained, yellow and peach body--stained with a blend of tea and vanilla with a light bow. She doesn't have buttons or bells yet--trying to decide exactly how I want to finish this bear. I also stained and grubbied up both heads before attaching them to the bodies and rubbed cinnamon into both so they smell oh so YUMMY! I am going to be listing these darling bears in my Etsy store here shortly--with better pictures! These here were taken with my cell phone next to my back door!

Also being worked on are some new tucks that I am going to be partnering with the sewn baskets that I shared in my last post. I think they are going to be wonderful for spring, Mother's Day and into Summer! They are still in the playing, sewing, thinking stage, but I will be taking pictures along the way so you can see them!

This is a pretty big weekend around these parts for the Little Man, as we are getting ready to have his first birthday party tomorrow! Can hardly wait! Grandpa and Omi, Mommy and Papa, Big Sis and Big Brother and some of our friends are going to be here to celebrate! We are doing a farm theme and rather than doing a cake, we decided to do cupcakes instead! We are getting the frosting airbrushed green with green sprinkles and I purchased the most DARLING fondant farm animals from Sugar Art by Tami on Etsy. Here is a similar set to what we purchased --they are absolutely adorable and I highly recommend her work--and they came beautifully packaged and she put longer legs on the animals so they will stand up in the frosting! I will be sure to take plenty of pictures to share in a future blog post!

Well--I should wrap it up for now! I can hear my machine calling me and I need to get my goodies finished up for tonight's listing on Olde Primitive Peddler! Have a wonderful Saturday and weekend friends! And as always--

Be safe and happy crafting!
Karen

PS Alas, my sewing machine went kaput on me today--I was happily sewing along and it started to make some grinding noises and I stopped what I was doing and ran it down to the quilt store where I get it serviced and it will be going in for a spa treatment and I won't have it for 2 weeks! I did switch over to my back up machine and that was like using a new machine since I haven't used it for a while! The upshot is though, that I won't get my items done for Spooks and Saints on Olde Primitive Peddler! Darn it all! So they will have to wait till the next listing, which will be May 15th--just wanted to let you know!!
ButtonsInTheAttichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15106830726179292580noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3184022336395380089.post-42107548962032978722012-04-04T09:12:00.000-07:002012-04-04T09:12:23.612-07:00Crack that WIP and new listings

Good morning dear readers!

WHERE did March go? It felt like such a long month while it was here, but now, wow! here we are in April already, and Easter is just around the corner! My sewing had to go on the back burner for quite a while in February and March due to having a nice visit from a high school friend and his lady and little girl and to Little Man cutting 4 (count em 4) teeth! Poor Bean! But, they are just about through now, all pearly white--he has also turned 1 and I am spending a lot of time chasing the little bean down and that has seriously cut into my crafting time.

In March, I participated in an Easter swap and I really wanted to make my swap partner's Easter basket. I remembered way back, many, many moons ago, making sewn baskets--fabric wrapped cording that was stitched together with the fabric--and while I was looking for instructions for making those baskets (which I did eventually find) I stumbled across videos on YouTube for making the baskets sewn on the machine. I had seen them a year or so back, but I was rather worried about sewing them on the machine--fast moving needle, fingers... could be interesting! LOL Well, I decided to take the plunge after watching these videos. So I got some cotton clothesline, tore some strips of quilting cotton and went to town! And BOY did I go to town! I made several baskets and I am hooked!!! Here are pictures of some of the baskets I made--
The picture just above is the base of one basket being sewn together on my machine--that particular basket was claimed by my dear hubby to hold all of his work stuff--pens, work badge, phone and headset, keys--you get the picture--but at least all his stuff is together in one place! The middle basket is the one I sent to my swap partner, and the one on top I am debating if I am going to sell it or keep it for myself!! They are VERY addicting and I can see many more being made as time goes by! I am seriously thinking about making them to go with the various tucks I am planning. I think that would be a great go together--2-3 tucks, a matching/coordinating basket and filler--any thoughts on that, dear readers? Great for gifts!

I have some new items up on OPP ( Olde Primitive Peddler) --The first grouping is on the main site, and consists of 2 dolls and one of my baskets--
The basket is a rather good sized basket--10 inches long, 8 inches across and 3 inches deep. The doll in the middle is Greta Jean--I just LOVE her! I am sooo pleased with how she came out--she is the first doll I made with the new type of stuffing I found and I am really pleased with how it worked and with how she looks! Her hair is scarlet dyed raw wool that I tied in place-- I was so pleased with how Emma's hair came out, I really wanted to try it with Greta! Her features are painted and well sanded and she was tea-stained and baked dry-Prince's coloring was a pleasant surprise--I love how he looks, and I am going to have to write down what I did with him for future projects so I don't forget! Last but not least is Mary-Anne. I really like this pattern, and I really like how this particular doll comes out. I typically make her with floss hair, all wild and crazy, but this time, I decided to make her with red alpaca hair. Raw Alpaca is totally different then the way that wool feels--silky soft, smooth and just different. You will have to feel it to see! All three of these can be found here.

I also have Sadie, my Scare-die cat, that I think is absolutely adorable-- Isn't she CUTE??? I think she would be absolutely darling for Halloween and I also have a Fall candle mat as well. These two items can be found here.

I am also working on more cutter quilt items and bunnies and bears that have cotton bodies and plush faces and I am thinking they are going to be absolutely adorable and I can hardly wait to share them with you! I am also working on Americana and other goodies for summer and into fall--can you believe it is already time to start thinking about fall?? At least for me!

Well, I am glad to be back in Blog-land and being able to visit with all of you! I wish each and everyone of you a wonderful Wednesday and until next time--

Take care and happy crafting!
